As our world seems to descend into ever-deepening divisions, how do we learn to see that the very roots of our separation begin in the body?
The narratives we have absorbed — from our family of origin, the media, society — soak deep into our muscles and impact the way we are able to respond to the world. Consciously, or unconsciously, we carry stories about gender, race, sexuality, class, age, size, or religion and they shape our physical bodies as our brains make sense of life through infinite split-second reactions and assumptions about ourselves and each other. The way we walk through a room, how much space we take up, how we make love, who we gravitate towards and who we avoid — cultural conditioning is a bodily phenomenon.
In this workshop, we will use the dynamic practice of Open Floor Movement to unveil unconscious conditioning with curiosity and humility. Once unveiled, we can perhaps uncover unbridled freedom of expression. For ourselves, and for each other.
